What the next generation picks up

Some lessons on a working property are taught; many are simply absorbed. Late in July, one candid moment caught the children watching the old backhoe at work—a machine more than forty years old still earning its keep.

The photograph says a lot about farm life at Riverdell. Maintenance is constant, old equipment has stories and progress often comes through patience rather than speed. The children may not follow every instruction in the moment, but they notice the way a job is approached and the care taken with the land.

There is now newer machinery ready to take on more of the workload, but the old girl remains part of the property’s story. It is a practical contrast between generations: people and machines learning from what came before while making room for what comes next.
